Description
St Michael's Corner is a house built around 1919 in the Arts and Crafts style. It has an asymmetrical, roughly T-shaped design with one storey and attics. The ground floor is constructed of Sussex bond brickwork, while the upper part is timber-framed with herringbone brick nogging. The roof is tiled, partly mansard, and features brick chimneystacks. Throughout the house, there are wooden casements with leaded lights.
The entrance, or east front, has three windows, two of which are located in a left-side projection that includes gabled dormers in the attic. There is a penticed porch with a central wide plank door, a narrow side-light, and built-in wooden seats. The right side of the house has a projecting section with a timber-framed gable.
On the south or garden front, there is a projecting wing on the right side with a timber-framed gable, which includes a two-light window on the first floor and a three-light window on the ground floor. The left side is recessed and features two tiers of three-light flat-roofed dormers, totaling three. The ground floor has a five-light casement and a recessed porch. The gable return has two-light windows and a plank door with a flat cornice. The north front includes a wooden corner post on the left, a three-light window with a relieving arch, and a larder window with metal mesh on the right.
Inside, the staircase hall showcases exposed adzed beams, a series of plank doors, and a staircase with thick stick balusters. The Music Room features a plank door, ceiling beams, and an angled brick fireplace. The Dining Room also has an angled brick fireplace and a plank door. The Kitchen includes exposed ceiling beams, a built-in wooden dresser, and a tiled floor. The upper floor has exposed roof trusses with a collar beam.
