Description

The Church of All Saints, built in 1863 for the last Earl Brownlow, originally served as a church day school and mission room but has been used solely as a church since 1908. It is constructed in bands of yellow, red, and brown brick, with narrow bands of blue brick on the clerestory, and features tiled roofs. The design resembles an Italian basilica with late Gothic details.

All windows are fitted with cast iron latticing; the clerestory has a row of 15 rectangular lights, while the aisles contain 2 and 3-light windows with moulded terracotta mullions. The west end features a central door set in a 2-centred arch made of moulded brick, adorned with cable and nailhead ornamentation. The door jambs include paired stone shafts, which are partly missing, and carved foliage capitals. Flanking the door are windows with three pointed arched lights in stone surrounds, complete with shafts to the mullions and jambs. Above, a round clerestory window also has a moulded brick surround, and there is an arched bell-cote.

The east end has a canted apse dating from around 1860, constructed of timber-frame and brick. A gabled vestry in matching style is attached to the northeast side. The southwest side features a brick wall that encloses two small separate courts, with square cloak-room pavilions at the corners. The interior is plain, supported by iron columns that hold up the clerestory.
