Description
Little Germains is a Grade II* listed building dating from around 1540. Originally a small rectangular house, it was expanded with an L-shaped front wing added in 1720, a northeast side addition in 1830, and a northwest addition in 1911. The building features red bricks, with some plum-colored brickwork on the sides, and has an old tiled roof. It stands two storeys tall with attics and has a road front that includes five sash windows with glazing bars set in reveals beneath flat arches. There are two hipped dormer windows with lattice casements. The central doorway has a half-glazed door with an archivolt and a surround featuring consoles that support an open pediment. There are first-floor bands on either side of the doorway pediment and an eaves cornice. The south front displays red and grey chequer brickwork, a corbelled brick cornice, a Doric porch, and a canted bay window on the right. Inside, there is some 18th-century painted fielded panelling. Little Germains, the Stables, and the Front Railings form a cohesive group.
