Description
Cabrook is a house built in the mid-19th century, possibly designed by Lady Grenville. It features an imitation combination of 15th and 16th century timber-framed architecture in a rustic style. The exterior is made of colourwashed brick and timber framing, topped with an old tiled roof that has three brick chimneystacks—two with panelled bases and one set diagonally. The house has two storeys and irregular window arrangements.
The entrance front includes a central projecting porch that spans both storeys, featuring applied oak framing with quatrefoils, a gabled roof, one three-light wooden mullioned window, and a set-back door. On either side of the porch are dormers with fretted bargeboards and penticed leantos. The right side leanto obscures close-studding. The rear elevation mimics a Wealden house, constructed with timber framing and painted brick infill. It has a coved centre with brackets at either end and end bays that oversail with curved braces. There are three casement windows and two doors with arched heads in solid timber surrounds.
Inside, the house features a winder staircase with a wooden handrail, exposed ceiling beams, and plank doors.
