Description

Bradleyfield Farmhouse, along with its bakehouse/washhouse and carriage house, dates from around 1835. It is constructed of stone rubble, featuring dressed stone window heads and cills. The building has a low-pitched hipped slate roof with lead roll hips and ridge, as well as deep eaves. The exterior is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-bay west front, which includes large 16-pane sash windows with ashlar heads, keystones, and cills. Stone steps lead up to the central doorway, which has a doorcase with panelled reveals, a cantilevered canopy, a rectangular overlight with margin glazing bars, and a panelled door. The rear east elevation is similar but has plain flat window arches. At the back, there are two large rectangular two-storey service blocks with pyramidal slate roofs and deep eaves, with various small windows; the bakehouse/washhouse is on the right and the carriage house on the left. The interior reportedly retains much of its original joinery, including the chimneypieces and staircase. The layout consists of a double-depth plan with four rooms on the ground floor and a central stair hall, with the bakehouse/washhouse attached to the rear left corner and the detached carriage house with a loft above at the rear right corner.
