Description
The ruins of the old Church of Saint Matthew are a post-medieval structure located in Bainbridge Stalling Busk. The building is low and consists of three by two bays, featuring a single-storey gabled porch added to the south, which includes stone benches inside. The inner doorway is square-headed and made of chamfered ashlar. There are three plain window openings on both the south and north sides. On the east side, there are two chamfered mullion windows, with one window lacking a mullion. The west wall is blank. Inside, there are two arcades of two segmental arches that run parallel to the gable. It is suggested that the liturgical east may have originally faced north, as indicated by the reconstructed altar base.
