Description
This is a barn located approximately 20 meters north of Howgill House, likely built in the 18th century. It is constructed from roughly-coursed sandstone rubble with quoins and features a stone slate roof. The barn has a rectangular five-bay plan oriented on a north-south axis, situated on the boundary between the garden of Howgill House and the lane leading to Doulby Croft.
On the east side, there is a wagon doorway in the second bay, which is sheltered by a lean-to porch that has a timber lintel and a stone slate roof. There are also two small windows, one to the left and one to the right of the doorway. The south gable wall displays three tiers of pigeon holes arranged in a triangular pattern, complete with ledges. The rear and interior of the barn have not been inspected. This barn forms a group with Howgill House.
