Description
Summersgill is a farmhouse with an attached barn, dating from the 16th and 17th centuries. It is built of ashlar and coursed squared stone, topped with a graduated stone slate roof. The building is two storeys high and has two bays, featuring a lobby-entrance plan. On the left side, there is a board door set in a chamfered surround, and to the right, a two-light chamfered mullioned window, with a three-light chamfered mullioned window in the right bay. On the first floor, there are two two-light chamfered mullioned windows. The building has end stacks.
The barn, located on the left-hand side, has a large central board wagon door with a chamfered segmental arch, along with another board door to the left. Inside, there is an inglenook fireplace with a coit or spear in the lobby. The barn features a cobbled threshing floor and cattle stalls to the left, along with an original timber roof supported by strut trusses. Summersgill is regarded as a typical longhouse, a style that was once common in this area.
