Description
The lime kiln, located approximately 100 meters southeast of High Chapel, is likely from the late 19th century and was probably constructed by a professional mason. It is made of large coursed blocks of sandstone rubble, featuring quoins and has a square plan built against a slope. The kiln stands about 2.6 meters high, with a battered design and a slight step back above the draw hole, which measures 1.75 meters high and is slightly tapered. Some coping stones are missing. Inside, there is a round-ended draw hole covered by three large stone slabs. This kiln is a good example of its type and is relatively well preserved, resembling another lime kiln located approximately 100 meters southwest of High Croft. It is a prominent feature in the landscape of Dentdale.
