Description
Ditchingham Lodge is a country house built in the mid-18th century. It features red brick construction and a black glazed pantiled roof. The building stands three storeys tall, with 2 and a half storeys at the rear. The facade is symmetrical with five bays, where the central three bays are slightly advanced. The windows are sashes, with all ground floor and two first floor windows lacking glazing bars. There are gauged brick arches over the openings and louvred shutters on all windows. The central door has six flush panels and a rectangular fanlight with decorative glazing bars. A portico supported by Tuscan columns enhances the entrance. Moulded brick string courses mark the floor levels, and a wooden modillion eaves cornice adds detail.
On each gable, there are 19th-century canted bays featuring tripartite sashes with glazing bars and glazed doors on the ground floor. The gable ends have parapets. The lower 2 and a half storey range at the rear includes a large axial stack and two gabled dormers on the west side. The casements have glazing bars, with some replaced in the 20th century. There is a small, hipped plain-tiled projection on the north-west corner and some blind segmental-headed openings on the east side. Inside, the lodge boasts a good staircase with wall panelling, three turned balusters per tread, and carved tread ends.
