Description
The Stables at Coombe Place is a 1730 L-shaped building constructed with cobbles and topped with a pantile roof. The west front features a central carriage archway made of grey headers, flanked by red brick quoins and a modillion cornice. Above the archway is a pediment that contains a quatre-foil shaped window. Atop the roof is a square wooden turret with a clock face and an octagonal cupola that houses a bell, complete with a lead canopy, ball finial, and weather-vane. On either side of the archway, there are three windows with stone architrave surrounds and keystones, and the glazing bars remain intact. Each end of the building has a projecting window bay with red brick quoins, a modillion cornice, and a pediment above that contains an oval attic window. The south front has five windows, with the central section of three windows projecting outward and featuring a wide pediment that also contains an oval attic window. Additionally, there is an entrance on the south side that leads to an underground passage connecting to the main house.
