Description
The Red Lion Inn is a public house located at the junction of New Street and Middle Street. The oldest part of the building, which faces Middle Street, is a timber-framed structure dating from the 17th century or earlier. This section features some exposed timbering and red brick infilling, although it has mostly been refaced with stone rubble. It has a tile-hung gable and a tiled roof, with casement windows that have small square panes. The building is two storeys high and has four windows on this side.
The front facing New Street is an early 19th-century addition, with a late 19th-century extension at the west end. This part is also two storeys high and has three windows, constructed from red brick. It features a modillion eaves cornice and retains its glazing bars. The doorway is adorned with pilasters and a projecting cornice.
