Description

The Town Hall is a notable building located in the Market Square of Petworth, constructed in 1793 by the third Earl of Egremont. It is a two-storey structure featuring seven windows on its eastern face, made of sandstone ashlar. The building has a string course, a modillion cornice, and a parapet. The three central window bays project outward and are topped with a pediment. The roof is hipped and covered with slate, and the glazing bars are intact. The ground floor windows are round-headed, while the first floor windows are set within round-headed arcading, flanked by pilasters. On the north front, there are three windows, and above them on the first floor is a stone bust of William III on a pedestal.
