Description
Garden Cottage is a cottage built in the early 19th century, with a later 19th-century lean-to extension on the left side. The ground floor is constructed of sandstone rubble with red brick dressings, while the first floor is tile hung. The side elevations feature curved tiles. The cottage has a tiled roof with a brick chimneystack located on the left side. It is two storeys high and has two windows, with wooden casements set in pegged architraves. The entrance includes a six-panelled door topped by a gabled tiled weatherhood supported by wooden piers. There is an original iron casement window on the rear elevation. The left side lean-to extension is made of brick and weatherboarding, with a tiled roof and curved tiles on the front. Inside, the ground floor features a cambered arched brick fireplace, while the first floor has an early 19th-century plank fire surround and a plank door. This cottage is an unaltered example of a modest dwelling, with heating provided in only one end. It is the last remaining cottage from a row that once existed.
