Description
The Priory is a former rectory, originally a medieval house known as a priest's house, with later extensions from the 18th century and mid-19th century. The building features walls made of flint with stone dressings, sections of brickwork in Flemish bond, and some roughcast. The front is predominantly flintwork with brick quoins, rubbed flat arches, a plinth, and a first-floor band. It has a tile roof that is hipped to small dormers. The front, which dates from the mid-19th century but is styled like the late 18th century, projects forward and has a flat roof behind a parapet, with a projecting center. The building is two storeys high with a window arrangement of 2-1-2, featuring sash windows. The ground floor center has a porch with recessed brickwork, niches within, and a half-glazed inner door flanked by lights.
Behind the front is an 18th-century block with three bays; the north gable is made of flint with brick quoins, while the south is roughcast and features three dormers. Further back is a parallel block forming a double pile, where the north part is medieval and the south is mid-19th century. The north gable has flintwork with stone quoins, a ground floor three-light sash beneath a cambered arch, and narrow upper sashes. The south gable is tile-hung above brickwork in Flemish bond, with a large three-light sash on the first floor above a rectangular bay with deep casements. The medieval rear wing has a wide roof with lower eaves, flint walls with stone quoins, and 19th-century windows. There are minor extensions to the north and south, and the rearmost part of the building adjoins the high flint wall of the neighboring churchyard. Inside, the rear part features stone-framed doorways with Tudor arches, part of a fireplace arch, and another stone-framed doorway at a high level.
