Description
Belle Tout Lighthouse was built in 1831 by Stevenson using Aberdeen granite. It has been disused as a lighthouse since the modern one was constructed below the cliff in 1902. A house was added to the north side of the lighthouse before the Second World War and was used as an artillery target, resulting in its ruin. However, the lighthouse itself remains largely intact, except for the top storey above the platform that once housed the lantern.
