Description
Nos 56 and 58 are two cottages that were once four and were used as the Poor House at one time. The rear part of the building dates from the 17th century, while most of the structure is from the late 18th century and early 19th century. The walls are constructed of brickwork in Monk bond with blue headers, some in Flemish Garden Wall bond, and there are flint walls with brick dressings, featuring a high stepped plinth. The roof is tiled, with a catslide at the rear and gabled dormers. The north-east front has one storey and an attic, with three windows and casements. There are two boarded doors for No 58 and another blocked door for No 56. At the rear, there is a taller block at right angles, which has two storeys and an attic, with flint walls and casements, along with a plain entrance for No 56. Inside this rear part, there is a 17th-century beam.
