Description

This is a 17th-century stone urn situated on a square stone plinth from the early 19th century, located on a ridge to the northwest of Petworth House. The urn may have originally been part of the parapet on the west front of Petworth House or from the Duke of Somerset's formal parterre garden. It was placed in its current position by the 3rd Earl of Egremont. The urn features elaborate carved masks.
