Description
Offerton House is a house dating from the 17th century, with 18th-century additions and later alterations. It is constructed of coursed rubble gritstone, featuring quoins, coped gables with moulded kneelers, and both intermediate and end ashlar ridge stacks, with the central stack of the house having a moulded cap. The roofs are stone slated. The building has an irregular plan, with the main range displaying triple gabled projections to the north and an elongated range extending northwards from the west end.
The south elevation has two storeys and four bays, with the west end bay gabled and featuring a gablet above the doorway. The central ground floor window consists of three lights, with recessed chamfer mullions and a central major mullion beneath a dripmould. Other windows include 2, 3, and 4-light chamfer mullioned windows, as well as 2, 3, and 4-light flush mullioned windows, with those in the west end bay being 20th-century renewals or insertions. The building also has 20th-century casement frames. Above the renewed flush mullioned window and the remodelled doorway at the west end, there are hoodmoulds with stops. The main doorway, located below the gablet, features a massive lintel and dripmoulding above, with 20th-century doors. The east gable has 2 and 3-light chamfer mullioned windows beneath a dripmould. The extended range at the rear includes a tall cart entry with a segmental arch, which now has a 20th-century glazed screen.
