Description
Upper Hurst is a former farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates back to the 17th century, with some additions made in the 20th century. The building is constructed from coursed gritstone rubble, featuring quoins, moulded copings, and kneelers on the southeast gable, while the other gables are plain. It has end ashlar ridge stacks and a stone slated roof.
On the southwest elevation, the house is two storeys high with three bays, including an advanced gabled bay at the northwest end. The windows are 3-light chamfer mullioned with 20th-century casements, and there are openings to the gabled range that are lower and possibly earlier. The doorway is off-centre in the main range, featuring a quoined surround and a massive lintel, with a plain plank door. The rear elevation includes an advanced gabled range at the southeast end, along with a 20th-century single storey addition at the northwest end.
