Description

Waterhouse Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1639. It is constructed from squared and coursed rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings, topped with clay tile roofs that feature coped verges on kneelers. The building has an integral end stack and a ridge stack at the intersection. The layout consists of three rooms in an L-shape plan, with the main range oriented north-south. The south room is unheated, while the north room includes a fireplace on the east side. There is a kitchen wing to the east, which has a fireplace at the east end and a staircase to the west. A doorway from 1639 is located in the southwest corner.

The farmhouse is two storeys tall with an attic and features a 1:1 window arrangement. The gabled main range on the left has mullioned windows with rebated surrounds, chamfered mullions, and returned hood moulds. The ground and first-floor windows have five lights, while the attic window has two lights. The gable is topped with a ball finial, and there are small two-light windows on the east side of the first floor. The kitchen wing on the right has large four-light casement windows. There is a central porch, likely from the 19th century, situated in the angle between the main range and the kitchen wing, featuring a lean-to roof and a half-glazed door.

Inside, the farmhouse boasts two large inglenook fireplaces, ceiling beams with ovolo chamfers and cyma stops, and a 17th-century staircase with flat shaped balusters.
