Description
Hamper's Bridge is a bridge over a stream, dated 1751, although the parapets were rebuilt later. It is constructed from hammer-dressed buff sandstone and features a single, tall, elliptical arch with a projecting course above. The bridge has a plain parapet with chamfered coping and plain iron railings that extend over angled rubble wing revetment walls. The date is inscribed on the keystone, and many of the other stones have carved numbers up to 7, some appearing on at least two faces. These numbers seem to relate to the dressing of the stones rather than to a reconstruction and can also be found elsewhere in the gardens, particularly in the West Terrace Walls.
