FARNDALE EAST BLAKEY RIDGE (west side)

Margery Bradley (also known as Old Margery)

II

Boundary stone and waymarker. Probably medieval. Sandstone. Roughly hewn rectangular monolith approximately 2 metres high. The west face is inscribed "T D", for Thomas Duncombe, former Lord of the Manor of Helmsley. The stone marks the meeting point of the parishes of Farndale East, Rosedale West Side and Westerdale, and stands on the intersection of the road from Blakey to Ralph's Cross, first mentioned in 1223, and the east-west cross track.
