Description

Moorgarth and Dickens Cottage are two houses located in Hutton-le-Hole, dating from the mid-18th century, with extensions and alterations made in the late 19th and 20th centuries. The main front is constructed of squared sandstone with herringbone-tooled quoins, while the extensions feature tooled and hammer-dressed sandstone. The roof is covered with pantiles, and there are brick and stone stacks.

The building is two stories high with a two-window main front, flanked by lower two-story ranges. Dickens Cottage, located to the right, has three windows, while the left side has one window. The entrance to Moorgarth is a six-panel door set in a tooled doorcase on the left side of the main front, with a rear access door on the right that has a divided overlight and tooled lintel. The main front features 12-pane sash windows with stone sills and herringbone-tooled lintels, along with a stepped eaves course, coped gables, and shaped kneelers, with end stacks.

Dickens Cottage has a six-panel door located in a gabled, projecting porch at the center right, and throughout the cottage, there are four-pane sash windows with stone sills and tooled lintels. It also has a stepped eaves course and a coped gable on the right side, with a stack located left of center. The interior of Moorgarth features quarter-round moulded joists on both the ground and first floors, and all doors are six raised and fielded panels. Dickens Cottage is included in the listing for its group value, while the extension on the left is noted as not being of special interest.
