Description

The Packhorse Bridge, located north of Coombe Gill Mill, dates from the 18th century or earlier. It is a single-span, arched hump-backed bridge constructed from local slate rubble stone, designed to carry a former pack horse route across the Coombe Gill to the nearby mill. The single arch features crude yet carefully laid voussoirs, and the bridge is flanked by low parapets made of boulder stone, approximately three courses high, topped with large, irregular flat coping stones. A portion of the cobble surface of the bridge is clearly visible.
