Description

Keswick Police Station Court is part of an early 19th century row of cottages, originally comprising twelve properties. Numbers 6 to 12 (consecutive) form the subject of this listing. The surviving section consists of the four western cottages and three of the central block, with the remaining cottages having been altered. The cottages are symmetrically composed, with the four central properties projecting slightly. They are constructed of roughly coursed rubble with slate lacing courses, large irregular quoins, and roofs of graduated lakeland slates. Brick ridge chimneys are present. Sash windows with glazing bars are set within wood architraves, and have slate lintels and cills. Modern doors feature glazed top panels, set beneath wide stone door slabs. A narrow cobbled forecourt runs along the front. The rear elevation displays small Yorkshire sash windows on the upper floor, along with modern tunnel extensions used as domestic offices.
