Description

The Rectory (St Martin's), located on Glebe Road in Bowness, dates from 1834 but may incorporate elements from the 16th century, with parts rebuilt in 1650 and 1680, and improvements made in 1770. The building features Victorian additions on the east and south sides. It is constructed from local stone rubble, which is partly white-washed and partly roughcast, and has a slate roof adorned with several round chimneys. The rectory has an irregular plan and stands two storeys tall with low proportions. The windows have been renewed. There is a north porch that leads to an upper room featuring an 18th-century fireplace. The house is also said to contain woodwork from the 17th century.
