Description

Ormathwaite Hall is an early 18th-century house with later 18th-century additions, originally built for the Brownrigg family. The house is constructed of painted roughcast walls set on a chamfered plinth, with a graduated greenslate roof featuring coped gables and kneelers. The chimneys are roughcast. The main facade is two storeys and five bays, with a two-bay extension to the left, all under a single roof. A double-panelled door is set within a pilastered doorcase featuring a pediment decorated with painted figures and foliage. The windows are sash windows with broad glazing bars, set in painted stone surrounds. A two-storey canted bay extension to the left has similar windows. A recessed side doorway to the right of the canted extension is also fitted with sash windows. At the rear, two gabled projections are visible. The projection to the right has sash windows with glazing bars in segmental-headed reveals. Interior window shutters are panelled.
