Description
The greenhouse, now used as a store, dates from around 1845 and may have been designed by H.P. Horner or J. Lightfoot. It is constructed from dressed slate and limestone. The structure features a square north-west tower with a battered base and a corbelled embattled parapet, with the north-west angle projecting further out. The entrance is recessed under a corbel table and has a segmental-pointed head; above it is an arrow slit with iron dressing.
The south-east side has a three-bay limestone greenhouse with a pyramidal roof, which was originally glazed, and large segmental-pointed windows that now have 2-light casements but are boarded up. The south-east facade is similar in design. On the north-east side, there is a basement entrance leading to a room with a fireplace, and corbelling is present above. A terrace to the north features raking buttresses, while a retaining wall to the south stands 6.7 meters high and includes an end turret. This retaining wall extends north for approximately 67 meters and has three projecting bays with raking buttresses, along with an end canted bay. The wall continues west for about 30 meters. The property is owned by the National Trust.
