Description
Low Brundrigg Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with later additions. It features stone rubble walls and a graduated greenslate roof with stone ridge tiles, and has two chimneys. The building is two storeys high, with a two-storey extension to the right at a lower level, which is likely a later addition, and a single-storey extension on the left. The front has a 20th-century door set in plain reveals, flanked by 20th-century casements, while above are two 19th-century casements with a single horizontal glazing bar. The extension includes two 20th-century replacement sash windows on the ground floor and two 19th-century casements above, which have iron-framed opening lights. A window on the north side is probably original and features heavy timber mullions with direct glazing. Inside, there is some 17th-century panelling on both floors, a spice cupboard with initials and the date C&AD 1664. The living room has a moulded ceiling beam, and a room on the upper floor contains fixed settles, a decorative plaster frieze with vine ornament, and a panel featuring the Royal Stuart Arms along with initials and the date CD&AD 1667.
