Description

Whelpo House is a late 18th-century farmhouse, with additions from the early 19th century, now used as a private house. The house has pebble-dashed walls with painted V-jointed quoins. The roof is of graduated greenslate, with coped gables and rebuilt brick chimney stacks. The original farmhouse is two storeys and two bays wide, with a hipped, single-bay extension to the left, all under a common roof. A right-angled, single-storey, two-bay extension and a barn/stable are set at right angles to the rear. A 20th-century door and sash windows, set in painted stone surrounds, feature on the front. A porch on the right-hand end wall has a 20th-century door and casement window. The extension features a 6-panel door within a doorcase comprising fluted pilasters and a dentilled pediment, flanked by side lights. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars. The barn/stable has a segmental cart entrance. Later brick extensions to the rear of the barn are not considered to be of interest.
