Description
The remains of a stone crusher house, likely built in the mid-19th century, are located at Bampfylde Mine in North Molton. The structure features stone rubble walls and is currently floorless and roofless. It has a rectangular shape, with retaining walls for a former wheel pit to the west. The exterior includes window openings on both the first and ground floors on the south side, a first-floor window opening on the north side with an arched opening beneath it, and a rectangular opening in the east wall with a wooden lintel. Inside, there is a ledge around the walls, which likely supported the former first floor. Bampfylde was the main copper mine in the area, primarily active from 1865 to 1884, although mining has occurred intermittently since the late 17th century. The stone crusher may date from the early 19th century, but it is more likely from later in the 19th century.
