Description

Yen Cottage is a house, likely built in the early 18th century and remodelled in the mid to late 19th century. It is constructed of rendered walls, probably over a stone rubble core, with a gable-ended roof covered in scantle slates and brick stacks. Originally a three-room plan, the left-hand end room contains an integral end stack, possibly a later addition, and the front entrance. An unheated room on the right-hand end was divided longitudinally, and may also be a later addition. In the early 19th century, the house was incorporated into a formal grouping with Heasley House Hotel and Heasley Cottage.

The front elevation is asymmetrical, with three windows on the first floor and four on the ground floor. The ground floor windows are 19th-century two-light wooden casements. A 20th-century half-glazed door sits within a 20th-century rendered porch between the first and second windows from the left. Inside, the ground-floor rooms around the axial stack feature roughly-hewn cross beams, which were likely previously cased. A window seat is present in the left-hand room, and old boarded doors are found throughout.
