Description
Simonsbath Bridge is a road bridge over the River Barle, originating in the medieval period but extensively rebuilt, particularly after the floods of 1952. The bridge features flat bedded slate and random rubble voussoirs, with slate bedded on end to create saddle back coping. It has a three arch span, with the west side displaying three semi-circular headed arches and cutwaters that rise to the spring of the arch, topped with flat pilasters. The east side has a central pointed arch flanked by two slightly different semi-circular headed arches, with cutwaters in between that have a recessed ledge, and the parapet has been rebuilt behind.
