Description

Clapper Bridge is a road bridge over the River Bovey, dated 1845. It is constructed of granite rubble with a dressed granite arch and coping stones. The bridge features a single span segmental arch supported by straight jambs, with dressed stone voussoirs and a projecting keystone on the west side, also dated 1845. The parapets have squared coping stones that are swept out at the ends of the abutments. The name "Clapper Bridge" likely comes from an earlier structure that existed at the same location.
