Description
This is a road bridge located over the flood stream of the River Bovey, likely built in the 17th century. It was widened around the mid-19th century. The bridge is constructed from granite rubble and features a roughly dressed granite arch and coping. It has a single span segmental arch with a recessed arch ring and a chamfered granite soffit on the outer ring. The parapet has roughly squared coping that sweeps out over the abutments. The bridge was widened on the southeast, downstream side, which includes a segmental arch made with roughly dressed granite voussoirs. This widening likely occurred when Clapper Bridge in the nearby Manaton parish was constructed in 1845.
