Description

Honeyford Farmhouse is a small farmhouse, likely dating from the 16th century with improvements made in the 17th century. The walls are plastered cob built on stone rubble footings, with extensive stone rubble patching; the stacks are stone rubble, one retaining its original granite ashlar chimneyshaft, and the roof is thatched. The house is built on a south-facing slope with a low 3-room-and-through-passage plan. An unheated inner room is located uphill at the eastern end. The hall has an axial stack backing onto the passage, and the service end kitchen has a front lateral stack on a gable, suggesting a possible crosswing once existed. Originally, the house may have been an open hall house with an open hearth fire. A secondary outshot is attached to the service end. It is now two storeys high. The service end is blind, while the hall and inner room have an irregular 2-window front with 20th-century casements containing glazing bars. A single first-floor window, belonging to the hall chamber, rises into the thatch. The passage front doorway is positioned to the left of centre and contains a 19th-century plank door. An eaves overhangs a porch supported on granite posts. The roof has a gable end on the right and a hipped roof on the left. Interior details were not accessible for inspection, but it is reported to be largely unmodernised, likely containing 16th and 17th-century features that merit proper examination before any modernisation or alterations.
