Description

The outbuildings and walls of the walled garden at Wells House, possibly dating from the 18th century, are constructed of cob and stone rubble. The outbuildings are colourwashed and plastered, featuring slate roofs, while the garden walls have slate capping and are also colourwashed facing the road. Originally agricultural, the outbuildings are now used for storage.

The buildings form a U-shaped range with one curved corner located to the northeast of Wells House. Access to the yard is from Dry Lane, situated between the end of the curved range and the right (north) end of the house. A cob and stone rubble wall encloses a kitchen garden at the rear of the house, with the north wall adjacent to the roadside of Commons Hill, opposite Sea Hill House.

The exterior of the outbuildings features an attractive curved slate roof at the corner where Dry Lane meets Commons Hill, along with a large three-light window and a narrow doorway on the Dry Lane side. The elevation facing Commons Hill is blind and continues as the north wall of the walled garden. On the yard side, the range is partly weatherboarded and partly open-fronted, with a doorway in the east wall of the walled garden.

The interior of the outbuildings has not been inspected. These structures hold significant group value with Wells House and Sea Hill.
