Description

The wayside cross located at SX 545694 in Walkhampton is a medieval structure that was re-sited in 1974. It is a small granite Latin cross featuring hollow-chamfered edges and an incised cross on its face. The right-hand arm of the cross has been destroyed, and there are holes where it once hung on a gate. Before its relocation in 1974, this cross was built into a wall at nearby Burnham Farm. It is believed that it may have been returned to a position close to its original location on Yennadon down, as the foundation deed of Buckland Abbey, dated 1280, mentions 'Yanedone Cross' as a boundary mark.
