Description
The ventilation shaft and remains of a building are located about 400 metres north-west of Little Hyner, at the site of the Frank Mills silver-lead mine. This structure dates from around the mid-19th century and is constructed of stone rubble. It features a tapering shaft next to a ruinous building, both of which are surrounded by spoil heaps. Frank Mills mine was notable for being the most successful silver-lead mine in Teign, as well as the deepest and most exposed. The surrounding spoil heaps are highly toxic due to lead and arsenic, resulting in a complete lack of foliage cover.
