Description

The Meadows is a mine captain's house, now a residential property, located adjacent to Kent House. It was built in the early to mid-19th century, with some later alterations. The building features a rubble construction with a slate-hung front and an asbestos slate roof, which has a rubble and brick gable stack on the right side.

The house has a two-room plan, with a porch that leads to a central passage hall. There are rooms on both the right and left of the hall, and a straight staircase at the rear. It stands two storeys high and has three windows on the upper floor, all of which are 12-pane sashes. The ground floor features 16-pane sashes on the left and right, while the central flat-roofed porch has double half-glazed doors with stained glass and margin glazing, along with 4-pane lights with margin glazing on the sides and an inner four-panelled door.

The right return of the house has a slate-hung gable end, and the rear is constructed of colourwashed rubble with a lean-to that follows the pitch of the main roof. This side includes a two-light casement window, a single light, and a two-light 6-pane horizontal sliding sash under the eaves. There is also a glazed porch on the right with a half-glazed door, and the ground floor of the main house to the right has two 20th-century two-light casements. The interior has not been inspected.
