Description
The manure pit, located in the center of South Harton Farmyard at the north-east end, is now used as a fishpond. Some believe it may have originally served as a cattle pound. Likely built in the 19th century, it is not depicted on the tithe map from 1838. The pit is a large round shape, enclosed by a granite rubble wall topped with rounded granite coping. The current entrance on the north-west side seems to have been added later, while the original entrance, which is now blocked, is situated on the north-east side. This manure pit is part of a well-designed farmyard layout that includes three other listed buildings.
