Description
Bishop's Stone is a large carved stone set in the garden wall of Caseley Bungalow, located about 15 metres south-east of the road to Caseley. This stone is likely the base of a cross and dates from the medieval period. It is made of granite, with the lower part consisting of rough, uncut stone. The upper part is square with chamfered edges that have worn stops at the foot. The top corners of the stone are cut back and splayed to form an octagon, with the bases of the splays rounded to create convex stops. The face of the stone facing the road is incised with a shield that appears to bear a worn armorial device, while the face towards the garden has two worn letters incised on it, likely reading "T C."
