Description
Drakeford Bridge is a bridge over the River Bovey, built in 1684 or earlier and widened in 1809 by James Green, the county surveyor. It is constructed of granite and features a single elliptical arch. The downstream side of the arch, which likely dates from the original 1684 construction, has fairly roughly-shaped voussoirs. Above this arch, the parapet is slightly corbelled out and made of granite rubble, topped with a rounded coping. On the inner face of the parapet, which is made of granite ashlar, there is a worn granite tablet that appears to read: 'This 1684 bridge was repaired the....' The upstream arch seems to be part of the 1809 widening, with better-cut voussoirs, and its parapet is similar to the downstream side, faced with granite ashlar only towards the road.
