Description
The dung pit, located approximately 2 metres south of Higher Shilstone Farmhouse, is likely from the 17th century. It is lined with large, roughly-shaped granite blocks and is terraced into the hillside, open at the downhill (east) end. The south side runs parallel to the barn and calf house, separated only by a narrow path. From the top (west) end, the wall curves down the other side. This dung pit is part of a group that includes Higher Shilstone Farmhouse and its associated farm buildings, which are also listed. The farmhouse is one of the best-preserved examples of a Dartmoor longhouse, making this group historically significant.
