Description
This is a cottage located approximately 2 meters east of Court Cottage, dating from the mid-19th century. It is constructed from partly-plastered granite stone rubble, featuring large dressed quoins and some brick dressings. The cottage has a granite stack with a plastered brick chimney shaft and a corrugated iron roof, which was likely thatched originally.
The building has a small but relatively tall square two-room plan, facing west. The larger room includes a lateral stack on the right (south) side. It is two storeys high, with a one-window front. The front door, located to the right, is now behind a 20th-century flat-roofed porch. To the left, there is a small service lobby that features a small window with a pointed brick head and a Y-pattern of glazing bars, topped with a hipped roof.
On the first floor of the main block, there is a central 12-pane sash window with a flat stucco architrave. The roof is hipped on all sides. The rear wall has a 16-pane sash window with a flat stucco architrave on each floor and also includes a Victorian post box. Inside, the cottage has plain 19th-century carpentry and joinery details. This cottage is part of a group of varied listed buildings that make up the hamlet of Thorn.
