Description

Brinsabach Farmhouse is a farmhouse with origins in the 16th century, featuring additions from the 19th century and alterations from the 20th century. It is constructed of stone rubble and has an asbestos slate roof that is gabled at both ends, with a tall stone stack at the left gable end. The original layout was likely a three-room plan with a through passage, but the lower end is now a single storey under a corrugated iron roof and is partly used as an outbuilding. There are 19th-century additions at the rear. The main block is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical three-window front with irregular fenestration and 20th-century windows. To the left of the main block, there is a porch with a sloping slated roof supported by solid stone walls, which includes a stone seat. A 16th-century chamfered four-centred doorway leads to the former passage and features a triangular section of unusual relief carving above the opening, consisting of decorative patee fitched crosses. Inside, there is a fireplace at the left gable end stack that is partly blocked, and the roof timbers are said to have been replaced. The Batten family has lived at Brinsabach since the early 16th century.
