Description

This is a group of three detached farm buildings located about 15 metres east of Northcombe Farm. The buildings are arranged around the farmyard, with the east and south buildings likely dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century, while the north building may be later. They are constructed of stone rubble and cob, and feature corrugated iron roofs.

The south building is a barn made of stone, with a cob gable at the west end that includes a tiny window at the apex. The roof is half-hipped at the east end, and internal timbers at the west end suggest it was once thatched. The trusses have collars that are pegged to the face of the principal rafters.

The east building is two storeys high, with stone on the ground floor and cob above. Its roof is hipped on the south side and half-hipped on the north side, with some thatching spars still visible. The roof trusses resemble those in the barn. The upper storey features two early wooden windows at the north end of the front wall, each with two lights, moulded mullions on the inside, and diagonally-set vertical bars. The south end, which was formerly a stable, has an old plank door with wrought-iron strap hinges. Inside, the upper floor beams are stop-chamfered with run-out stops.

The north building is entirely made of stone and has a series of wide openings on the ground floor, with the upper storey converted into a flat. It may have originally been a linhay. The roof is hipped at the east end. Together, these buildings form a cohesive group with the adjacent farmhouse to the west.
