Description
The clapper bridge, located on the road from Southbrook to Buckland Hamlet, is situated about 230 metres east of Buckland Church. This structure dates from the early 19th century or earlier and is made of granite. It features granite lintels that rest on stone abutments at both ends and on a central pier, which has a sharply pointed cutwater on the upstream side. Above the lintels on the upstream side, there is a rubble parapet topped with roughly squared granite blocks. On the downstream side, there is a high rubble boundary wall belonging to Buckland Court. It appears that the modern road has been raised about 1 metre above the original level of the bridge.
