Description
Hayne is a medium-sized house built in the early to mid-19th century, with later additions. The exterior features stucco walls and a low-pitched slate roof with deep eaves and a moulded gutter cornice. There are rendered brick chimney stacks. The house has a central stair-hall plan, with principal rooms located at the front on either side and service rooms at the rear. A late 19th-century wing has been added to the back. The building is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-window facade, featuring sash windows from the 19th century, although the glazing bars have been removed. The central doorway is framed by a Doric portico porch, which includes fluted square columns and pilasters that are glazed between them. The porch also has an entablature with triglyphs in the frieze and mutules in the cornice. There is a horizontal band between the floors, with pilasters extending from this band to just below the eaves, and paired intermediate pilasters between the windows. The interior was inaccessible during the survey, but it is noted to contain high-quality 19th-century joinery, including a staircase with a curtail step and panelled shutters on the windows.
